NIPS Workshop on Prioritising Online Content
Description:

Echo chambers describe situations where one is exposed only to opinions that agree with their own. In this talk we will discuss the phenomenon of political echo chambers in social media. We identify the different components in the phenomenon and characterize users based on their behavior with respect to content production and consumption. Among other findings, we observe that users who try to bridge the echo chambers have to pay a "price of bipartisanship." We then discuss ideas for combating echo chambers.

Description:

The OpenAIRE datathon aims at stimulating developers and data scientists at analysing the OpenAIRE Information Space with the intent of improving its consumption by users and third-party services. The OpenAIRE information space consists of a scholarly communication graph interlinking publications, datasets, software, research organizations, funders, and projects. The graph is the result of harvesting metadata from around 3000 data providers, harmonizing such metadata, and keeping or inferring links between graph objects described by such metadata.

This tutorial takes a detailed view of key text mining tasks (introduction to NLP, linguistic pre-processing, entity and relation recognition, semantic annotation, indexing and multi-paradigm search) of textual content. It will cover both the latest state-of-the-art research and selected established methods and tools. It will show how text analysis tools and techniques can be used to assist with semantic search by providing extra information that is not explicit within the text itself.

Description:

Network alignment is the problem of matching the nodes of two graphs, maximizing the similarity of the matched nodes and the edges between them. This problem is encountered in a wide array of applications-from biological networks to social networks to ontologies-where multiple networked data sources need to be integrated. Due to the difficulty of the task, an accurate alignment can rarely be found without human assistance.
