DATAJOURNALISM AT SCHOOL

The latest SoBigData dissemination project has just began. With the project “Datajournalism at school”, high school students will learn how to look for news in a huge amount of data and how to tell a story starting from a scientific result.

The 20-hours training course will seek to provide the theoretical basis and a set of practical tools to achieve an article of datajournalism to the high school students.
Datajournalism is the last frontier of digital journalism and is an area where the world's largest newspapers are investing in their newsrooms.
Students will become familiar with some concepts such as big data, their analysis and visualization, experimenting directly the scope and effects on the field of journalism application. In fact, they will produce a newspaper article from a set of scientific data, supported by a series of graphical display and textual editing tools.
The articles will be published on datajournalism.it, an italian national magazine (partner of the project), which deals specifically to tell the world of education, training and science starting from the numbers.
The partnership with SoBigData makes the project unique in the higher education landscape. Unlike other school projects which also include the datajournalism, boys and girls work side by side with researchers, and make their journalistic activity with a well-founded scientific approach.
