SoBigData Magazine - Issue 11

Welcome to the 11th edition of SoBigData Magazine!

As we embark on this new edition of SoBigData Magazine, we are pleased to focus on a crucial topic in today's world: digital education in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science.

Rapid technological advancements have created a pressing need for skilled professionals with a broad understanding of these fields. Digital education, including innovative platforms like Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), offers a powerful solution to meet this growing demand.

Following our mission as a Research Infrastructure, SoBigData believes that accessible and impactful education is essential for fostering a thriving data science community. Today, we are excited to announce that the SoBigData Academy will open its doors to the public this fall, offering high-quality online courses, materials, and self-learning tools. By leveraging the power of MOOCs, we aim to create engaging and informative courses that empower learners from all backgrounds to acquire the necessary skills.

In Discover a Node, we will highlight one of the nodes of the SoBigData research infrastructure. This month, we will focus on the UK node, exploring its unique contributions to the network. By showcasing the diversity and strength of our international collaborations, we aim to inspire and connect researchers worldwide.

Our second recurring column, So Big Laws, will continue to provide essential insights into big data research's legal and ethical implications. In this issue, we will explore a specific legal topic related to the copyright implications of using copyrighted data for training large language models (LLMs).

Digital education and international collaboration are crucial for data science innovation. SoBigData is committed to playing a leading role in these areas and providing the resources and support needed to foster a thriving data science community.
