Google rewards a project for schools in Pisa
Google will fund a project aimed at developing Computational Thinking for teachers in science and technology in secondary schools. The project, one of the three winners of the Google Educator Grant Award in Italy, was conceived by Paolo Ferragina, professor of the Department of Computer Science of Pisa University and member of SoBigData, and Fabrizio Luccio, professor of the Department of Computer Science of Pisa University.
The project, which lasts six months (from October 2018 to March 2019), includes ten lectures given by university professors and the same number of laboratory activities related to them. The focal point, emphasizes Professor Paolo Ferragina, will be to
"describe in real mathematical language real problems and their algorithmic solutions that arise in various areas where the use of information technology is now fundamental such as cryptography, search engines, bioinformatics , social networks, artificial intelligence, big data and robotics. Ample space will be reserved for the discussion with the participants on how the concepts presented in the classroom can be transferred to the teaching of secondary school in which the participants are the experts. Thus, the workshop activities will be divided into two ways: some teachers will realize the algorithms seen in the classroom in Python language with the help of university staff and members of the CoderDojo club of Pisa, others will be able to deepen some topics and design modules, possibly multi-disciplinary, which can be used directly in the classroom with school students.
